As we prepare for the opening of the 178th Fair, it is with great sadness that we pause and announce the passing of a true Erie County Fair legend. On Wednesday, August 2nd, Mr. Frank E. Newton of Orchard Park passed away peacefully.  Newton served the Erie County Agricultural Society for over 55 years.

Following in the footsteps of his father J. C. Newton, Frank joined the Erie County Agricultural Society in 1962. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 1965 and served as Society President during the 1974-1975 season. He took Director Emeritus status in 2012 and continued to serve the Society.  Newton took great pride in his affiliation with the Fair and attended the 2017 pre-Fair meeting just days before his death.

Mr. Newton was served in the US Marine Corps and participated in numerous WWII Pacific campaigns earning the Presidential Unit Citation, he went on to earn a degree in Agriculture from Cornell University and worked as an agricultural extension agent for the United States Government.

Frank was the beloved husband of 70 years of Rosetta D. (nee Deni) Newton; devoted father of Jean (Bill) Darrow, Jack (Phyllis) Jenkins, J. C. Newton and Daniel (Tamer) Newton. Newton was 93 at the time of his death. He was laid to rest on Sunday, August 6th.
