Adult Ag-Ucation

The Fairgrounds Agriculture Education Team has worked for the past five years on a children's Farm 2 Table program.

These programs are geared towards children in grades K-5 and focus on exploring the role agricultre plays in our lives. Stemming from the success of this program the Team has developed Adult Ag-ucation. Designed in the same spirit of Farm 2 Table, Adult Ag-ucation will explore agriculture topics in an innovative and hands on way.

Classes will take place in the state-of-the-art Agriculture Discovery Center. This 60,000 square foot facility on the Fairgrounds opened in 2014. The building features interactive exhibits as well as stalling facilities for livestock shows. The Farm Focus room is a classroom like setting that will provide the back-drop for Adult Ag-ucation classes.

Winter Wellness Series. Classes are Jan. 15 and 29 and February 12 and 26 in the Agriculture Discovery Center on the Fairgrounds. Classes start at 6:15pm.

Maple Tour March 16

On March 16th the Erie County Agricultural Society will conduct a “Maple Extravaganza Tour” providing a behind the scenes look at Western New York’s vibrant maple syrup industry. The four-hour tour, open to all ages, costs $20 per person and includes bus transportation to two local maple farms, a homecooked pancake breakfast, guided tours of two sugar bushes and a maple cream “make & take” activity.

The “Maple Extravaganza Tour” takes place before the start of the region’s popular Maple Weekend produced by the New York State Maple Producers Association. At the Wendel and Ploetz Maple Syrup farms tour, goers will experience the sugar making processes from the tapping of trees to the boiling and finishing processes. Family traditions will be shared that will provide a greater understanding on what it takes area farmers to bring pure maple syrup to market.

The tour is part of the Society’s ongoing Adult Ag-cation program that promotes a greater understanding of the region’s agricultural resources and provides instruction on how to use agriculture in everyday life.
