2023 Best In Show Hard Cider

Pennsyltucky Hard Cider Takes The Top Honor

The 2023 Erie County Fair Best in Show Cider—Pennsyltucky Hard Cider—was brewed by Chuck Privitera out of Eden, NY. The cider has flavors of apple and honey throughout. The cider was inspired by a recipe Chuck learned from Christopher John out of PA who passed it on to him. The cider is slightly dry and would pair well with fried dough or a funnel cake.

Chuck is no stranger to the home brewing competition at the Fair and this year took home a silver medal for his Cream Ale recipe. He began brewing in 1997 with friends and they are known as the "Stumblin' Falls Homebrew Club". They meet monthly at his basement brewing set-up, known as “The Rabbit Hole”. He recently began making his own cider. He makes a lot of different delicacies at home— he gardens, makes sausage and cans his own vegetables. Chuck shared that he owes appreciation to Paul Alessi of Big Inlet Brewing, who has guided him along his brewing and cider making journey.

Chuck has begun working with the team at BlackBird Cider Works to professionally make his recipe that will be for sale during the Fair (while supplies last).
