Erie County Agricultural Society, producers of the Erie County Fair
Classification: Hourly, Seasonal (Non-Exempt)
Location: On-site at the Fairgrounds at 5600 McKinley Parkway, Hamburg, NY 14075
Hours: Vary. Candidates should have general availability during the 12 days of the Erie County Fair in August; specific shifts are assigned based on operational needs and skill set.
Reports to: Security Supervisor
About the Role: The Erie County Agricultural Society (ECAS) is looking for Security Guards to support
the annual Erie County Fair. The ideal candidate enjoys a fast-paced environment, is a self-starter, can
work independently or with a team, and is detail-oriented.
About the Organization: The Erie County Agricultural Society is a private not-for-profit membership
corporation. The Society is the oldest civic organization in Western New York, established in 1819.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide armed security at designated entry gates and checkpoints throughout the fairgrounds.
• Conduct metal detector screenings and bag inspections in accordance with established security
procedures.
• Monitor entry points for prohibited items, suspicious behavior, or safety concerns.
• Maintain visible security presence to deter criminal activity and enhance guest safety.
• Respond to incidents or disturbances and notify supervisors or law enforcement when
appropriate.
• Complete required reports and follow all state laws, security policies, and fair safety procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications:
• Must possess a valid New York State Security Guard Registration issued by the NYS Department
of State, Division of Licensing Services.
• Must be a retired police officer, retired peace officer, or currently certified peace officer authorized
to carry a firearm under New York State law.
• Must possess a valid New York State pistol permit issued by the appropriate licensing authority
and be authorized to carry a firearm while on duty.
• Must have successfully completed the NYS 8-hour pre-assignment training course and 16-hour
on-the-job training course as required under New York State General Business Law Article 7-A,
unless exempt under applicable law.
• Must have successfully completed the NYS 47-hour firearms training course for armed security
guards and be registered as an armed security guard with the NYS Department of State, unless
exempt under applicable law.
• Must maintain all required annual training, including the 8-hour annual in-service training and 8-
hour annual firearms training for armed security guards in accordance with New York State
requirements.
• Must have completed all required fingerprinting and background checks necessary for New York
State security guard licensing.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and possess valid government-issued photo identification.
• Must comply with all New York State laws, licensing requirements, and use-of-force standards
applicable to armed security personnel.
• Friendly, positive attitude and willingness to help guests and team members
• Able to handle busy, fast-paced situations and adapt to changes
• Reliable, responsible, and able to solve problems or ask for help when needed
• Comfort using technology and learning new systems or devices.
• Age requirement: Must meet the minimum age for this position, which is 21.
• Education: High school diploma/GED
• Experience in customer service, hospitality, or event/fair-related roles is a plus, but anyone eager
to learn is encouraged to apply
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to remain alert and maintain a visible security presence while standing or walking for
extended periods.
• Ability to perform security screening functions such as operating handheld metal detectors and
conducting bag inspections.
• Ability to respond quickly to incidents and move safely through crowds when necessary.
• Sufficient physical mobility to patrol large outdoor areas on foot.
• Ability to safely use and carry assigned security or law enforcement equipment in accordance
with training and regulations.
Hourly Rate: $40.00/hour
