Join us each evening of the Fair at 6pm outside the Firemen's Building as we present the Daily Firefighter Honoree award.

Erie County Fair Daily Firefighter Honoree

This award is presented to one firefighter of any rank (including Junior Firefighters) each of the twelve days of the Erie County Fair, a person who best exemplifies the positive characteristics of a member of the fire service and who has a notable record of service and achievements.

More than just years of service, or the sheer number of emergency responses participated in, or fire service organizations belonged to, this award is about quality, not just quantity. It is presented to the individual who has given selflessly of their time and energy and made a real impact in support of those they serve and serve with, the fire department, the fire service in general and the community.

The recipient must possess a positive attitude and an exceptional aptitude to positively influence or inspire others. This individual gives selflessly to others and goes well beyond the call of duty in a manner that exemplifies competency, initiative, and creativity in problem-solving.

Nominees will be evaluated with attention to the following criteria:

Dedication – The individual has demonstrated the highest degree of dedication to and participation in activities within their fire department and the community, regardless of their length of service. This includes but is not limited to training, emergency response, public education, and other fire department operations; as well as active involvement in outside organizations that work towards the betterment of the fire service and/or their community.

Loyalty – The individual is a team player who has demonstrated an allegiance to their fire department and to its firefighters and officers. This individual supports their fire department’s mission and engages in activities aimed at improvements in the fire department and/or the fire service community at large.

Performance – The individual has gone beyond normal duties of their position to make visible improvements that have enhanced the fire department’s ability to reduce losses and better serve the community. The recipient demonstrates the ability to lead and to follow as the situation or environment calls for.

Professionalism – The individual performs their fire service duties in a manner that reflects the highest standards of the fire service. They represent their fire department and the fire service with pride and distinction and conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the proud tradition and dignity of the fire service.

Impact – Whether this individual serves in a formal or informal leadership role, they serve as a role model for others and shares their knowledge and experience as a mentor, instructor, training officer or educator, and supports the efforts of others to achieve their personal and fire service goals, and the goals of the fire service and their community.

This award is presented to a fire department member in recognition of their significant contributions, achievements, character, and dedication to the fire service. Emerging leaders, and acts of bravery and heroism will be given appropriate consideration.

Selection is made solely at the discretion of the Erie County Fair based on the individual's performance of duties, leadership, teamwork, creativity, customer service and impact inside and outside the fire department.

Requirements

  • Nominee must be a current member in good standing at their fire department.
  • All nominations must include the completed official nomination form.


Deadline

  • Complete nomination form and supporting documentation must be received by July 15th.

Recipient must be available one day of the Fair, August 7-18, 2024, between 5:30 and 7pm. Those chosen will receive a gift, 4 admission passes, parking pass, Strates Shows ride card and $20 in meal tickets.

If nominee is chosen, the Erie County Fair will contact the nominator first.
